In case you receive SNAP benefits, be sure to know when your money is going to hit your account. As of today, August 20, 2024, the state of Texas continues to distribute SNAP benefits based on your Eligibility Determination Group number. Your EDG number determines when you’ll receive your benefits each month.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is one of the largest safety net programs for many low-income families in Texas. The program enables families to buy nutritious foods using an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. Your benefits loaded onto your EBT card are always predicated upon the last two digits of your EDG number.
Here is a breakdown of when you can expect your benefits this month:
- EDG numbers ending in 46-49: Benefits were issued on August 14th
- EDG numbers ending in 50-53: Benefits were issued on August 15th
- EDG numbers ending in 54-57: Benefits were issued on August 16th
- EDG numbers ending in 58-60: Benefits will be issued on August 17th
- EDG numbers ending in 61-64: Benefits will be issued on August 18th.
For this reason, benefits are staggered as this helps in balancing the benefits throughout the month, hence avoiding backlogs in the delivery system. If you aren’t sure what you EDG number is, you can locate it on your SNAP paperwork or by logging into your Texas Health and Human Services Account.
SNAP is the literal lifesaver for really many households, more so now than ever before. Benefits for each household are based on its income and size; the maximum benefit is $973 per month for a family of four. That maximum benefit level is in effect through September 30, 2024.
If your EDG number ends with those numbers that are not included in the given list, your benefits will be issued on other dates of the month. Remember to keep your account under regular control in terms of available funds and plan your shopping for groceries in such a way that you have enough to last you until the next issuance date.
